Why I Went Vegan

I first looked into veganism as a diet in the hopes that it would finally be an answer to my health issues, specifically chronic pain and fatigue. The more I experimented with food, and the more I looked into veganism as a whole, my entire mindset changed.

I was a junk food vegan after going in too hard too fast with all the restrictions

It went from just a diet change to a whole lifestyle makeover. It didn't happen overnight though, as hard (and disastrously) as I tried. I drowned in the idea that my diet and lifestyle choices had such a big impact on not just my own health, and wellbeing, but on the state of our planet, the animals that get butchered, as well as the ill-treated workers in the livestock industry.

It really all started from watching some vegan YouTubers, I was adopting a lot of their suggestions, but still consuming dairy and eggs. I was so desperate to improve my health, that I did this cleanse called 'Banana Island', where you eat nothing but bananas for a whole month. To my surprise it made me feel great! It was of course a struggle at times because you can't really buy ready-to-eat ripe bananas, plus I had to eat about 30 a day...so you can imagine how much an of hassle it was to physically bring home all those bananas.

After that, I was still consuming animal products, especially if I was eating out or if I was invited over for dinner somewhere.

Then I watched Earthlings....that's when I really went vegan.

A typical breakfast

I've been vegan for four years now, and I always think back and wonder what my life would look and feel like if I had done it sooner. Although I still have chronic pain, (it's actually gotten worse, but not because of my lifestyle!) the times that I am eating whole foods, my energy levels do drastically improve.

I take a lot of food flat lays :) I worked as a vegan recipe developer for a while.

I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone at least research veganism as a whole and try it out for a couple of months. You can't "go vegan" for a week or two and expect to see great results. I mean if it takes up to a month or two for some medication to work then of course we'll need to give our bodies the time to adjust and naturally cleanse with whole foods too!
